There's an area of the state about 45 mile northeast of Madison near Portage that is home to many of Wisconsin's Amish residents. The town of Dalton is home to dozens of Amish-owned stores, but the very best one is Pleasant View Bakery. Located in a nondescript white house, you'll usually know you've found the right spot because of the line of people snaking out of the side door. You've got to take a trip to this amazing Amish store in Wisconsin.
This unassuming little spot is easy to miss if you're not paying attention, but it's well worth making sure you know you've found it to get to enjoy the baked goods hiding inside.
You'll find everything your sweet tooth could ever desire here, plus a few things you didn't know you needed!
Every available space here is covered with fresh-baked amazingness, and the smell is enough to make your mouth water.
Though the baked goods are the focus, you'll also find a small area of homemade jams and sauces that make the perfect accompaniment for the bread you'll buy to take with you for lunch sandwiches that week.
Bring cash and be prepared to stand in line. This place is pretty famous in the surrounding area, and the treats are so amazing that folks start lining up before the doors even open up. But we promise the line moves quickly and is well worth standing in.
The pastries are all perfectly baked. You'll find light-as-air doughs, flavorful fillings and the perfect mix every single time.
The pretzels are bigger than your head and offer the perfect salty foil to all the sweet treats available.
The pecan rolls, cinnamon rolls and caramel rolls are all also gigantic, but they're so good you won't even want to share. Bring something to transport all this goodness home in as you'll want to stock up as much as you can to gorge on all these sweet treats.
This spot is an easy drive from some of Wisconsin's most populous areas, and it's absolutely worth the hour in the car for all the delectable goodies you'll get to try.
Pleasant View Bakery is located at N9541 Kiefer Rd., Dalton, WI 53926.
If you head to the Dalton area, you can pick up a hand-drawn map in many of the shops that shows you where all the local Amish shops are. Remember that many of the places won't have electricity or lights, so if you're planning to go for the day, a head lamp or flashlight wouldn't go amiss.
