When you first descend down the hill into the charming little Village of Fish Creek, you’ll know you’ve arrived someplace special. White clapboard buildings hold gems of restaurants and shops. Nearby, sailboats bob on the protected harbor. And a short walk from there is the entrance to one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful state parks. Fish Creek is located in the heart of Door County, between the villages of Egg Harbor and Sister Bay. It’s about a three hour drive from Milwaukee or four and a half hours from Chicago.
The drive is worth it. The village is a tranquil escape from the noise and stress of the city. You won’t hear traffic noise here, just the occasional sound of a seagull.
The village is tucked between a large bluff and the waterfront and you’re never far from the lake. The village has a small soft sand beach that’s popular with families and an expansive marina that’s a peasant place to stroll.
While this is a small town, you’ll find all kinds of shops that sell everything from art to Christmas ornaments and clothing.
Peninsula State Park has an entrance right in town. There are miles of trails, rocky beaches, and sweeping clifftop views to explore.
Fish Creek is beautiful in any season. In the summer, it’s a bustling place but there’s often a refreshing breeze off of the lake so things always feel calm and tranquil. In the winter, the village is quieter - your only company on the street may be the falling snow.
