The cruises take place about the La Crosse Queen, a carefully-crafted replica of the grand river boats that traveled on the Mississippi River more than a century ago. It's one of the few authentic Mississippi River paddlewheel river boats still operating in the United States today. Cruises depart from the queen's home port of La Crosse.
Unlike many other replica riverboats, the paddle wheels actually propel the boat - there are no hidden propellers. The paddle wheels are split to help steer the boat and twin diesel engines keeps the wheels turning.
There was a time when rations on a riverboat were probably somewhat limited. Those days are over. The pizza cruises have free pizza and unlimited beer and soda
There are also modern day comforts on the riverboat. The lower level of the boat is climate controlled with air conditioning and the upper deck is partially covered with a canopy. One the warmest days, you'll be comfortable!
The boat offers a unique perspective on the La Crosse area, including views of the area's bridges, shorelines, historic sights and local wildlife.
Does a slice of pizza taste better out on the water? Board the La Crosse Queen and find out!
The La Crosse Queen operates seasonally and pizza cruises run weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The boat also offers other types of cruises, including sightseeing adventures, lunch and brunch cruises and a Saturday night dinner cruise. Private charters are also available. Once you've dinned on a Wisconsin riverboat, you might want to enjoy a meal on the rails on a vintage Wisconsin railroad dining car!
