Folks don't generally think of Wisconsin as "wine country" but we know there are tons of great vineyards and wineries all over our fair state. From the vines that grow in the unusual soil of the Niagara Escarpment to the ones that flourish along the Mississippi River Valley and everywhere in between, delicious, flavorful grapes (and other fruits) flourish around Wisconsin to make some very delicious wines.
On top of that, our wineries are actually kind of gorgeous. These are certainly not the only vineyards and wineries in Wisconsin, but here are some of the prettiest, tastiest places to spend a day or even host an event. In no particular order, here are the 13 Picture Perfect Wisconsin Wineries:
1. Wollersheim Winery - Prairie du Sac
Built into the hillside outside of Madison, this vineyard gets interesting flavors from the mineral composition of the soil. It's a gorgeous spot that's been used for growing fruit for years and well worth a day trip.
Open 10 am - 5 pm every day. Located at 7876 WI-188, Prairie Du Sac, WI 53578.
2. Whistlers Knoll - Hortonville
This unique vineyard grows grapes to sell to other wineries. They started as an event venue while their vines took root and when they were ready to start making their own wines, they found Wisconsin law wouldn't let them do both. So they've stuck hosting events at their gorgeous location and other folks get to make use of their grapes. Win-win! They have a 19th century barn and one of the owners is a Master Gardener. You'll fall in love with the beautiful views here.
Located at N2845 WI-15, Hortonville, WI 54944.
3. Chateau St. Croix Winery - St. Croix Falls
Created in the style of old European vineyards, this place feels like an escape tucked along the west side of the state.
Closed Tuesday and Wednesday May-October and also on Mondays the rest of the year.
Located at 1998 Highway 87, St. Croix Falls, WI 54024

6. Staller Estate Winery - Delavan
