Homemade sweets can’t be beat! Unfortunately, most of us don’t have the time (or culinary skills) to make our own. Luckily, there’s a shop hiding here in Wisconsin that specializes in homemade sweets, particularly German cookies and chocolates. Take a look:
This is Gabriele’s German Cookies and Chocolates. It opened in Ashland in 2004.
Even though it's in a small town, it’s easy to find since it’s right on Main Street. Plus, the outside of the shop is designed to look like a gingerbread house, so it’s pretty hard to miss. (Look closely, and you’ll see Hansel, Gretel, and the witch.)
Equally charming inside and out, the shop is stocked with authentic German cookies, chocolates, and other sweets.
The confections are handcrafted with "love and care" by owner Gabriele Block, who was born and raised in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
But it’s not just the fact that the sweets are handmade that makes them so special.
Generations of old recipes also contribute to their tastiness.
And don’t forget that the sweets are made using only the finest ingredients.
Whatever Gabriele is doing, it’s working. Customers consistently use words like "delicious" and "the best" to describe her tasty creations.
In addition to homemade sweets, the store carries a variety of imported German goodies. And as the seasons change, so does the merchandise as holiday treats are added to the mix.
The sweet selection doesn’t end there. There are also homemade jams and jellies.
But it’s not just edible merchandise you’ll find.
Truly a one-stop-shop, Gabriele’s carries an assortment of seasonal items and gifts.
If you can't make it to Gabriele's, don't worry. The store has a website and ships its sweets all over the world.
Gabriele’s is open six days a week. Visit Monday – Wednesday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information, call (715) 682-2114. You can also check out Gabriele’s website or Facebook page.
