Here’s what you’ll find behind the doors of this amazing German food emporium in Wisconsin...
Bavaria Sausage Kitchen is located just west of Madison in the community of Fitchburg. It welcomes visitors with traditional Bavaria chalet hospitality. It sells a huge variety of German foods – more than 1,000 items!
If you assumed a German sausage maker was behind this operation, you would be right. The business was started by master sausage maker Fred Voll, who came to the United States back in 1956. He began working in the food industry, eventually opening his first sausage shop in 1962.
The shop sells an amazing assortment of sausage. If you love meat, this place will feel like heaven. Pick your poison: Munich Weisswurst, Nurnberger Bratwurst, Knackwurst, Leberkase, Sauerbraten, and more!
The business eventually expanded to a state-of-the-art sausage kitchen - its current location. A second generation eventually took over the business and it remains a family affair.
Bavaria Sausage Kitchen takes great pride in its Landjager, a traditional semi-dried sausage. It claims they are the leanest snack sticks on the market!
The shop’s old-fashioned, natural casing summer sausage is also delicious. It’s made with very lean beef and spices stuffed into a natural casing, then hickory smoked! All you need is some cheese and crackers!
The shop does things the old way, using traditional family recipes that were brought to Wisconsin from Schweinfurt Germany. All the sausage recipes are still mixed by hand using traditional bulk spices. It’s as authentic as it gets!
Bavaria Sausage Kitchen’s retail business is open Monday-Friday. See the current hours here. Once you’ve experienced tradition at Bavaria, head to this shop for some sausages that are anything but traditional.
