All the way back in 1947, a small grocery store opened its doors in the Mountain State: the West Virginia Grocery. Housed in the former A.P. Wood Grocery, this new market was owned by father and son team John Genadopoulus and Adamantios Tommy Balasis. Now, more than half a century later, this time-honored grocery store still faithfully serves its local community, as does the restaurant that now shares space inside this historic building -- Ya'sou Restaurant in Kimball, West Virginia, still owned and operated by John Genadopoulus's granddaughter, Markella Gianato.
Gyros. Spaghetti and meatballs. Oven-roasted Grecian chicken. Stuffed shells. Chicken Shawarma. Spanakopita, pasticcio, dolmades, saganaki, and several other incredible dishes. Even wings!
All this and more deliciousness can be found in Ya'sou Restaurant (Ya'sou means "good health" in Greek), a long-standing, time-honored pillar of Kimball, West Virginia.
Serving up a delicious mix of authentic Greek and American dishes, Ya'sou Restaurant has some of the best food in the state.
People will travel for miles just for a piece of Ya'sou baklava.
And in light of that, we're pretty sure it should be illegal to drive through Kimball, West Virginia without stopping for a meal here at this authentic little Greek eatery.
Despite some major setbacks in its decades of operation, including two devastating floods, the family-owned and operated Ya'sou Restaurant and West Virginia Grocery continues to thrive.
