Berkeley Springs is a historic spa town in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The old spa area is now a state park, and worth a visit. After your Berkeley Springs State Park adventure, take just a short walk to the Lot 12 Public House. Business Insider Magazine called this restaurant the best in West Virginia.

West Virginia’s First PODA Offers A Chance To Enjoy A Drink While Exploring The City

Calling all outdoor enthusiasts and city dwellers who long for a breath of fresh air amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life! Huntington, West Virginia, has unveiled a Private Outdoor Designated Area (PODA) for drinking alcoholic beverages purchased by licensed local businesses as you stroll through certain areas in the heart of downtown. While not for everyone, this innovative initiative (the first of its kind in West Virginia) aims to provide a serene green space for residents and visitors alike to relax, rejuvenate, stretch their legs, and enjoy a drink as they explore this beautiful city.

Nestled within the vibrant core of Huntington, this PODA adds an exciting new way to enjoy the city and an adult beverage legally AND responsibly.

On Thursdays and Fridays from 5-11 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (in season), you can snag a designated PODA to-go cup (a clear cup with the PODA logo) from any number of local suppliers, get them to fill it with your favorite beverage, and head out to explore the downtown with your friends after dinner or before an event.

To spot which restaurants serve PODA approved beverages, watch for a sign like the one pictured.

The Huntington PODA initiative not only expands opportunities available to visitors enjoying the Downtown Huntington area, but it is also a way to support local businesses (beverages MUST be purchased from a designated PODA supplier; you may not bring in your own drinks).

Trash receptacles have been placed throughout the PODA area to prevent littering, and all laws related to public intoxication, indecency, noise, and driving while intoxicated still apply within the PODA boundaries.
