West Virginia is loaded from top to bottom with intriguing historical places but none is quite as delicious as the Mountain State's very first tavern. With a history spanning back 120 years, the North End Tavern & Brewery seems like it's been around forever. Still popular among locals looking for a mouthwatering burger and a tasty brew, this spot is one of the state's firsts that you'll want to visit again and again.
Established in 1899, North End Tavern and Brewery in Parkersburg is credited with being West Virginia's oldest restaurant. Known as the NET around town, this long-standing locale is a favorite for its award-winning fare and brews.
The casual eatery is a place to unwind with friends and family. Enjoy pub fare alongside beers from the on-site craft brewery.
The brewery was added to the tavern in the 1990s. Sip on a Roedy’s Red amber ale, the award-winning flagship brew. You'll also discover berry wheat and classic porter amongst others on tap.
To accompany the fine beers, you'll find a varied menu of yummy appetizers, sandwiches, and even German-American favorites.
The most famous menu item is the crave-worthy NET burger. Order it small or large and topped exactly the way you want it. In additional to traditional toppings, you can pile jalapenos, coleslaw, sauerkraut, and more on a NET burger.
The downstairs Tank Room is also open to guests. Enjoy the full menu plus special daily features whipped up by the chef on Thursday through Saturday evenings.
Can you imagine a more scrumptious way to visit a bit of West Virginia's history? The next time you're craving brews and burgers, head to the NET.
