While the East Coast is full of authentic Jewish delis, they aren't quite as abundant here in Washington. When Josh Grunig moved to Seattle in 2012 to work as the night manager for Grand Central Bakery, he eventually decided to change that. These days, Grunig is the owner and baker of Zylberschtein's Delicatessen & Bakery, a place that manages to be a hidden gem even in Washington's largest city along with home to some of the best bagels you'll ever have.
Zylberschtein's Delicatessen & Bakery sits tucked away in Seattle's Pinehurst neighborhood, which sits way up north -- north of Northgate, even.
On any given day, you'll see people enjoying sandwiches and sweet treats at the patio tables or waiting in line for their delicious orders.
After living in Seattle for two years, Josh Grunig launched Pocket Bakery, a pop-up bakery, in the Central District area of Seattle.
Business was booming, and in 2016, the bakery found a permanent home in Pinehurst.
In 2018, Grunig decided to realize his dream of opening a Jewish deli.
He launched a very successful Kickstarter campaign, and Zylberschtein's officially opened in the spring of 2019.
The Jewish Deli menu was inspired by comfort and nostalgia.
In addition to the best bagels ever, you'll find house-made breads, freshly baked pastries, and cured meats and pickles, Grunig's father's specialty.
It's impossible to determine if the savory sandwiches or freshly baked desserts are better, so you may have to try both.
The cookies and cakes here are out of this world.
If you're local to the Seattle area, you might spot Zylberschtein’s at the Mercer Island Farmers Market.
You can also take advantage of the Bagel Club, a home delivery service. Who wouldn't want fresh bagels and cream cheese delivered to their doorstep?
Zylberschtein's Delicatessen & Bakery is open Wednesday - Sunday from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
From boxed lunch specials to bake-at-home cookie dough, this place has something for every craving.
Have you ever heard of this neighborhood gem?
