Pizza may not have originated in America, but it's definitely a national treasure. And as our local pizzerias perfect their pizza recipes, the general consensus is that the best pies seem to be wood-fired. This means the pizza was cooked in a wood-fired oven, which is actually an ancient method of food preparation that is not only considered healthier (since it helps retain nutrients) but better for the environment (a wood oven does not require any electricity or gas to operate).
Wood-fired pizza is delicious. Here are some great places to get it in Washington:
1. Via Tribunali, Seattle
Via Tribunali has four Seattle locations. Each one features an authentic handmade wood-burning brick oven. Everything used in the construction of the oven was imported from Naples, so needless to say, the pizza here is amazing.
2. Fire Artisan Pizza, 816 W Sprague Ave., Spokane
Fire Artisan Pizza has won numerous local awards, including "Best Pizza" and "Best Atmosphere." Try it yourself and you'll see that both are, in fact, fabulous.
3. Walla Walla Bread Company, 201 E Main St., Walla Walla
The bread and pastries here are perfection, but it's the piping hot wood-fired pizza that really steals the show.
4. Stick+Stone, 3027 Duportail St., Richland
Yum! Stick+Stone serves authentic Neapolitan pizza and local craft beer in the heart of Richland. Their pies also have some creative names, like the Honey Badger and King Carne,
5. Fire, 3 N Worthen St., Wenatchee
Fire is located inside Wenatchee's Pybus Public Market, and their wood-fired pizza and comfort food are loved by locals and visitors alike.
6. HopTown Wood Fired Pizza, 2560 Donald Wapato Rd., Donald
HopTown Pizza is the brand new pizzeria located just outside of Wapato, and we're not kidding when we say this may be the best thing to happen to the Yakima Valley in a long time. HopTown is a great place to stop if you're out tasting wine, and their food truck can also be spotted at local events.
7. Millville Pizza Co., 3409 Harborview Dr., Gig Harbor
Not only does this place serve incredible pizza, but on pleasant days, you can enjoy it on their deck overlooking the harbor.
8. Pizzeria Credo, 4520 California Ave SW., Seattle
This West Seattle space is charming, comfortable, and naturally, it always smells amazing. The addictive wood-fired pizza is always served with a smile.
9. La Fiamma Wood Fire Pizza, 200 E Chestnut St., Bellingham
La Flamma was awarded the Best New Business and Bellingham’s Best Pizza awards the first year they opened (almost 20 years ago), and they've been a local favorite ever since.
10. The Flying Goat, 3318 W Northwest Blvd., Spokane
Despite the silly name, The Flying Goat takes their wood-fired pizza (and the accompanying beer and wine) seriously. It's easy to see why this is one of the top pizza spots in Spokane.
11. Stone Creek Wood Fired Pizza, 4524 Harrison Ave. NW, Olympia
Washington has some irresistible food trucks, and Stone Creek is no exception. They've been serving the Olympia community since 2011, and it's safe to say the locals love the pizza.
