Do you have a thing for horned helmets and viking culture? Do you appreciate cold beer and savory bar food? A highly anticipated viking themed bar recently opened in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, and it's a fantastic gathering spot you won't want to miss out on.
Skål Beer Hall opened in April 2019 after months of anticipation.
Given Ballard's rich Scandinavian history, it's the perfect neighborhood for such an establishment.
Inside you'll find a well-decorated space full of viking inspired decor.
This is the owners' interpretation of a modern-day meadhall, right down to the cozy fireplace and dim lights.
Speaking of mead, it's imported from Sweden, and it's fantastic.
The bar also serves a rotating selection of local and Scandinavian craft beer, cider, and aquavit (a Scandanavian spirit) cocktails.
But as great as the ambiance and the booze are, most people come for the food.
Chef and distiller Lexi works hard to serve traditional Scandinavian goodness with a contemporary twist.
The menu here isn't large, but it includes some seriously tempting bar food: Roasted chicken, sausages, wings, and skewers like these, just to name a few.
You can also order traditional Tasting Bords like Pickled Herring and a Nordic Charcuterie selection.
The space is stocked with plenty of games, which you're highly encouraged to play.
Needless to say, it's easy to spend a few hours here.
Skål Beer Hall is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3 - 11, Friday and Saturday from noon - midnight, and Sunday from noon until 10 p.m.
You'll have to find somewhere else to sport your viking helmet on Tuesdays.
