Spring is the perfect season to be a wine lover in Washington. Between the spring barrel tastings and the fun festivals, this is a great time to soak up the long anticipated sunshine while sampling some of our new vino. Here are a few spots you should head this season -- and you may want to bring a designated driver.
1. Lake Chelan
There's nothing like a spring in Chelan, and if you go for the Lake Chelan Spring Release, you'll get to sample the new whites and Rosés. This year's dates are April 20-21 and April 27-28. Get the details of participating wineries at lakechelanwinevalley.com. And if you like jazz as much as wine, the Lake Chelan Wine and Jazz Festival is May 16 - 19.
2. Kirkland
On April 26, the Kirkland Downtown Association will host the annual wine walk, and you won't want to miss it. Meet winemakers from 15 wineries and a brewery, sip and stroll, all for $25 ($30 at the door).
3. The Yakima Valley
Yakima's Spring Barrel Tasting (April 26 - 28) draws crowds from all over the Pacific Northwest. This is a chance to sample some of the best wines in the state and get a great deal on bottle purchases.
4. Walla Walla
Walla Walla has become Washington's premier wine destination, and there's never a bad time to go. But their annual Spring Release Weekend, which is May 3 - 5 this year, is especially amazing.
5. The San Juan Islands
You might not think of the San Juans as a wine tasting destination, but there are some pretty charming tasting rooms here, like San Juan Vineyard and Orcas Island Winery.
6. Woodinville
Woodinville Wine Country has some exciting spring events lines up. First, there's Drink Pink on May 31, which is a celebration of all things Rosé. Then, on June 1, the Woodinville Wine Boot Camp offers the chance to take your wine knowledge to the next level with four in-depth classes. There are now over 100 wineries in Woodinville, and you can sample vino from all over the state.
7. Leavenworth
Leavenworth is hosting another Spring Wine Walk on June 1. The bad news is that it's already sold out -- but the good news is you can go to our Bavarian village at any time and sample wine at over 20 tasting rooms.
There are definitely plenty of wine-focused events happening this season here in Washington. And if you're more of a beer drinker, just head here for the day.
