Now that we're finally getting good weather, it's time to scope out spots with outdoor seating! With all our inlets, shorelines, and waterfronts, there's no shortage of excellent options in the Evergreen State. But the best waterfront dining in Washington might be found on the Olympic Peninsula in the small town of Allyn, where The Boat House Restaurant & Bar has cornered the market on happy hours, dazzling views, and mouth-watering dinners.
Since it first opened to diners in 1981, The Boat House swiftly won the loyalty of Allyn locals, a small town of just over 2,000 residents perched on the shore of stunning North Bay.
But it isn't just local patronage that's kept The Boat House around for over 40 years. Allyn is smack dab in one of our state's prettiest regions, positioning visitors to enjoy dazzling hikes and still make it to happy hour.
Boasting warm, wooded interiors, The Boat House cultivates an atmosphere of cozy relaxation. Families with young children won't feel out of place and couples can exchange sweet nothings over cocktails and live music.
The food is a real treat. Some restaurants achieve longevity by clinging to old recipes with a sort of culinary zealotry. The Boat House has adapted to the times, creating dishes that could easily belong in big-city Seattle without sacrificing satisfaction.
If you can, save room for dessert. As a certified chocoholic, I tried the Chocolate Pots de Creme, a silky French custard that made me go cross-eyed.
And on a warm summer day, nothing beats the restaurant's back deck, which overlooks the water. Breathe in the fresh air and breathe out your troubles; not many places in our state are quite as picturesque as this.
Now that we're entering summer, it's time to start planning our outdoor excursions. If you love food half as much as I do, these al fresco adventures include dining en plein air, and few places do outdoor dining quite like The Boathouse Restaurant & Bar. This small-town spot on the Peninsula may offer the best waterfront dining in Washington. If not, it's certainly one of our state's only spots where people can go for a hike in the afternoon and be listening to live music— cocktail in hand, in full hiking gear— by the evening.
Ideal for family outings or something a little more upscale, The Boat House is a local favorite that deserves your attention.
