Washington's seafood is second to none. But if you've lived here long enough, you know that some of our best seafood isn't always found in the high end restaurants or tourist-friendly eateries—it's in the laid back, no-fuss hidden spots. Hood Canal's Hook & Fork is no exception.
You'll find Hook & Fork in the back of Union City Market, a gathering place in Union.
Union City Market is a renovated historic shopping and event venue inside a working marina, and it's right up the street from Alderbrook Resort.
The market itself is home to countless gifts, handmade items, grocery items, beer and wine, and an espresso and juice bar ...
... and best of all, a tiny casual restaurant known as Hook & Fork.
The restaurant is open year-round, but it's only open from Thursday - Monday.
When you enter, you'll spot the daily menu on the board and order from the friendly team at the counter.
After that, you can grab a an indoor or outdoor table as you wait for your food. Most guests prefer to sit outside by the water, weather permitting.
The menu rotates, but the emphasis is always on fresh, local food.
Seafood isn't the only thing served here, but it's certainly the star of the show.
Hood Canal is famous for oysters, and there are always plenty of oysters on the half shell here ...
... but we highly recommend ordering your oysters grilled.
We don't know what the secret is to grilling oysters this good, but they are quite memorable.
On a nice day, you can grab a bottle of bubbles or some beer from the market and enjoy your oysters by the water.
Best of all, this experience will cost you a fraction of what it would if you were at a fancy seafood restaurant in a big city—and it's just as magical.
Hook & Fork is open from Thursday - Monday, although hours vary.
On Thursday, Friday, and Monday, they're open from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday are reserved for brunch, which you can enjoy from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
