Have you ever met someone and just instantly wanted the best for them? According to the vast majority of Washingtonians who have met Joel Watson of the Tri-Cities, that's how it feels to get to know the owner of Just Joel's Cafe, an unassuming little diner in Kennewick. While this place has stayed largely off the grid since it opened a few years ago, it's a beloved local treasure to those who do know about it.
Have we mentioned you can get a (bottomless) cup of coffee here for a mere 69 cents?
Just Joel's Cafe sits tucked away at 1505 West Kennewick Avenue, inside a building that was once a drive-in.
Joel opened the doors in November of 2017 with the help of his friend, Marcus Hoffman.
Joel certainly knows his way around the kitchen, but he's also known for something else -- his generosity.
Having been down on his luck a few times himself, he's set out to help the community however he can. He's supported youth sports, held pie drives to buy coats for those in need, and goes to great lengths to make the community a better place.
Having an owner who cares is reason enough to visit a restaurant like this... but rest assured, the food is absolutely delicious.
Nothing is microwaved here. No corners are cut. Everything is made from scratch, and it's fantastic.
Just Joel's is a breakfast and lunch place, and that 69 cent coffee is available all day.
In fact, all prices are reasonable here, which keeps people coming back for more.
Be prepared: the portions here are not small.
You might end up taking some of your meal home for later, although you might not be able to resist finishing it.
Whether you go for something off the regular menu or you try one of the tasty daily specials, you won't be disappointed.
Just make sure to save room for dessert, or at least get some pie to go. The homemade pie here is out of this world.
Just Joel's is open Wednesday - Monday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The restaurant is small, and it's extremely popular. If you can't get a seat right away, takeout is (thankfully) available.
