While we love hearing about new restaurants opening in Washington, sometimes nothing tops a good old-fashioned burger from a roadside spot that has been around for decades. Since 1950, Frisko Freeze has been providing the good people of Tacoma with tasty burgers, irresistible shakes, and priceless memories. And these days, it's a statewide icon.
You'll find this nostalgic landmark in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood—and it really can't be missed.
The giant arrow points you toward the retro-style burger joint.
Perry Smith opened Frisko Freeze in 1950, eventually handing it over to his daughter.
When it first opened, sodas and milkshakes were the only menu items.
Once they added burgers and fries to the menu, the place became a hot spot.
People still can't get enough of the burgers here.
Admittedly, there isn't anything special about the burgers at Frisko Freeze—they're simply delicious (and nostalgic).
They also sell chicken strips, fish & chips, and a big prawn basket for those who have beef with burgers.
Whatever you order for lunch or dinner, don't forget to top it off with a Frisko Freeze shake.
These are the shakes that started it all, and it's easy to see why.
This place is so cool, it even has its own merchandise.
When you've made it past 70 years, you can sell quite a few hoodies.
Frisko Freeze is open daily, so you can satisfy that burger and shake craving anytime.
And we highly recommend you do.
Frisko Freeze is one of Tacoma’s historic landmarks, and it just happens to serve scrumptious food. Multiple generations of Washingtonians can remember coming here fondly, and we hope this place sticks around for generations to come. Read all about the current menu and hours on the website.
