When it comes to our state's food scene, Seattle definitely gets the bulk of the national attention. And while that's understandable (there's plenty of delicious food in the Emerald City), there's a city in Eastern Washington that has steadily been adding so many outstanding eateries, they could easily compete -- and oftentimes, it's a lot easier to get a table (and a parking spot outside).
Recently, Food & Wine called Spokane the best food scene in the Pacific Northwest that is often overlooked -- and if you spend some time eating your way around the Lilac City, you'll probably realize it's a fair assessment.
Spokane is Washington's second largest city, but many Washingtonians still think of it as a mid-sized town.
But it has really expanded in recent years, not only in population, but in amenities.
Spokane's motto is Near Nature, Near Perfect, and that may be an accurate statement.
Surrounded by nature and agriculture, it's in the perfect spot for some amazing farm-to-table cuisine.
Inside the sleek, minimalist space of the Wandering Table, you can enjoy locally grown food prepared by two incredible chefs.
The eatery is owned by award-winning chef Adam Hegsted, who works with chef Ryan Stoy to deliver the best quality possible.
Here, you can let the chefs know how much you'd like to spend per person, and they'll help you create the perfect meal.
Sante Restaurant & Charcuterie is located on Main Avenue, and it's the place to go if you prefer small plates and shareables.
Needless to say, this is a great date night spot.
There are some brand new gems, like Heritage Bar and Kitchen...
... and the time to check it out is Sunday during all-day happy hour.
Of course, there are always the tried and true classics, like Clinkerdagger, where you can enjoy fine dining with a view of Spokane Falls...
... the seafood and the prime rib here never disappoint.
The Lilac City has plenty of pizzerias for those times when nothing but the perfect pie will do....
... but when most Spokane chefs get hungry, they head to Veraci for some thin crust, wood fired pizza.
Veraci is owned by Chad White, a former contestant on Bravo's Top Chef.
The city rejoiced at the opening of Bruncheonette, the brick and mortar spot owned by the team from Couple of Chefs food truck.
Here, they treat brunching as an art form.
Spokane is also known for its craft beer, and at spots like No-Li Brewhouse, you can enjoy tasty food with your brew...
... and you can pair your meal with the perfect beer flight.
