Food lovers in Virginia know that appearances aren't everything. And if you'd like a little convincing, refer to our post about these amazing unsuspecting food finds. In that same spirit, Pico Taqueria packs a hidden punch. Disguised as little more than a humble (albeit charming) beach stand, locals know that this is the place to go for outstanding tacos.
Pico Taqueria can be found on the pristine shore of Chincoteague Island (6382 Maddox Blvd., to be exact). This family and friends-run outdoor restaurant showcases the best of the Eastern Shore in a delicious taco shell.
They keep the menu simple, and always-evolving, with the motto "you can put anything on a taco." This ensures a selection that is always seasonal as well as innovative.
The menu offers at least eight different taco options. These range from the "Chincoteague Classic," with your choice of meat, lettuce, pico de gallo, and cotija cheese,
creme fraiche to "The Eastside," with friend fish, fennel and grapefruit salad, arugula, avocado cream.
Don't miss out on the sides, either. In addition to classic chips and salsa, visitors can choose from Eastern Shore street corn, cilantro and lime rice, black beans, and more.
One of the best aspects of Pico Taqueria is how portable the meals are. You can either enjoy your feast right near the stand itself, or get the tacos to-go and enjoy a stroll along the beach.
And just so you know, while this spot may be something of a hidden gem, it's no secret among locals. You can fully expect there to be a line at just about any time of day. Rest assured, your meal will be well worth the wait.
