Vermont is known for its maple syrup and for good reason, but there is so much more to VT dining than just syrup and Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Let's take a look at a few of the exceptional things that we have perfected in the Green Mountain State. These items are a definite must eat when in VT!
1. Truffle Fries
It's a hard choice to pick which one is better - truffle fries or duck fat fries. Let's call it a tie.
2. Mac & Cheese
No matter what recipe, ingredient combination, type of cheese... Vermonters make some of the best Mac & Cheese in the world.
3. Fresh Eggs
Duck eggs or chicken, over easy or in a quiche... There is nothing quite like fresh eggs right out of the coop.
4. Apple Pie
Whether you like your apple pie la mode or with a slice of cheddar, this all-American dish is even better in Vermont.
5. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
Speaking of pie, it's that time of year when the strawberry rhubarb pies are fresh and delicious.
6. Cheddar Ale Soup.
Vermont has some serious cheddar cheese along with some of the best craft beer in the world. Combine the two and it's a meal made in heaven.
7. Vermont Cheese Plate
From appetizers to dessert, cheese can make a good meal great. For a great variety for your next gathering try this combination: Jasper Hill Bayley Hazen Blue from Greensboro , Champlain Valley Triple Creme from Vergennes , Blue Ledge Lake’s Edge from Salisbury and Cabot Cheddar from Cabot.
8. Beer Battered Fish and Chips
No one does it better than us.
9. Creemee
You're never too old (or young) to cool down with a creemee on a hot summer day.
10. Sugar on Snow
Maple syrup, snow, pickles and donuts. A staple sweet and sour dish that Vermonters love. Check out this hilarious video from the Food Network about this Vermont delicacy.
11. Maple Creme Brûlée
Maple syrup plus creme brûlée. What else do you need to hear?
12. Fresh and local burger
Locally sourced beef, fresh veggies and Vermont cheese... Burgers in Vermont simply can't be beat.
