Why choose a national chain when you can go local? The best neighborhood coffee shops have a real sense of community, not to mention delicious coffee. This list certainly doesn’t begin to include all the wonderful local coffee shops in Utah, but it’s a start. Shops are listed alphabetically, NOT ranked.
1. Alchemy Coffee, Salt Lake City (two locations)
This coffee shop offers plenty of seating, cool artwork and a great vibe. 271 N. Center Street and 390 E. 1700 S., Salt Lake City.
2. Beans and Brews, State-wide
Beans and Brews is a Utah company that’s grown to include 35 locations throughout the state. You’ll find shops all over the Salt Lake Valley, but also in towns like Vernal, Centerville, Riverton, Syracuse and Wendover.
3. Blue Copper Coffee Room, Salt Lake City
Right by the TRAX station, this shop is popular with commuters. Cool, modern industrial decor and hand-roasted coffee beans. 179 W. 900 S., Salt Lake City.
4. Caffe Ibis, Logan
This little shop has been roasting beans since 1976. The coffee is out of this world, and Ibis really is a neighborhood institution; it hosts live music and art events on a regular basis.
5. Coffee Garden, Salt Lake City
Great music, tasty pastries, excellent coffee and people watching. 879 E. 900 S., Salt Lake City.
6. Coffee Pod, Provo
Yes, there is a coffee shop in Provo! Customers on Yelp! rate Coffee Pod as the best the city has to offer. It’s small and cozy, but since there are only a couple coffee houses in the area, you’ll probably have a bit of a wait. 426 W. 1230 N., Provo.
7. The Coffee Shop, Riverton
This little coffee shop is really dedicated to the community; they offer open mic, yoga, chess games and more. And they'll call you by name when you're a regular.
8. Deep Creek Coffee Company, Springdale
In addition to the delicious coffee, homemade baked goods and killer views, you can enjoy live music on the outdoor deck. 932 Zion Park Blvd., Springdale.
9. Kaffee Mercantile, Ogden
One of the coziest little coffee shops you’ll find, and the staff is always friendly. 1221 25th Street, Ogden.
10. Kiva Koffeehouse, Escalante
It’s only open from April to October, but it’s such a gem I had to mention it. Artist Bradshaw Bowman dreamt of building a coffee shop, and he fulfilled that dream at age 87. The building is constructed of stone, glass and 300-year-old pines. Mr. Bowman has passed, but his coffee shop legacy lives on. UT-12, Escalante.
11. Moab Coffee Roasters, Moab
Organic coffee beans, roasted daily. The baristas at Moab Coffee Roasters will make your espresso the old-fashioned way… no automatic machines here! 90 N. Main Street, Moab.
12. Perks! Espresso and Smoothies, St. George
Small and cozy, customers love the mocha and specialty drinks at Perks. 1515 W. Sunset Blvd., St. George.
13. River Rock Roasting Company, La Verkin
The view from the back deck says it all. 394 S. State Street, La Verkin.
14. Salt Lake Roasting Company, Salt Lake City
If you’re looking for one of Utah’s most knowledgeable people about coffee, you’ve found it! The owner is incredibly fussy about the beans he purchases, his roasting process and his brewing. You’ll taste the difference, and enjoy the ambiance, too! 320 E. 400 S., Salt Lake City.
15. Sugar House Coffee, Salt Lake City
Art, music, people and coffee. This shop is tucked away in Sugarhouse and definitely has a neighborhood vibe. 1100 E. 2011 S., Salt Lake City.
I chose these shops based on reviews from Yelp! and other customer-review sites. Tell me in the comments which coffee shop is your favorite!
