What's better than biscuits for breakfast? Some people head to a fast food chain to get a crummy biscuit and egg sandwich that's been nuked in the microwave and tossed in a bag. Why in the world would you do that when you can find tender, flaky biscuits accompanied by some of the most delicious fillings you've ever tasted? I recently stumbled upon a tiny hidden gem of a restaurant in Salt Lake that's serving up the best biscuits in the Beehive State.
Sweet Lake Biscuits & Limeade is located in Salt Lake City, in the Ballpark neighborhood.
The address is 54 W. 17th S., Salt Lake City. They're open for breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Sunday from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm; closed on Monday.
This restaurant is pretty small, but the interior is light and airy.
The kitchen is right out in the open, so you can watch them making your meal.
Sweet Lake takes breakfast sandwiches to a whole new level.
This is the T-Rose. It includes a portabella mushroom, egg, asparagus and swiss. It's served with a delicious mushroom-shallot gravy and topped with green onion.
The Hoss is for the hearty eater.
A fried chicken breast, egg, bacon and cheddar are sandwiched in between the flaky biscuit halves. It's served with sausage gravy and green onion.
If you're looking for something more simple, try the Biscuit Bar.
You'll get two biscuits with your choice of either mushroom gravy or butter and jam (go with the mushroom gravy, trust us).
This is eggs Benedict like you've never had before.
Poached eggs, house made Hollandaise, ham, tomato and green onions. This comes with a side of the most amazing hash browns you've ever had.
Biscuits aren't the only delicious items here - you absolutely need to try a limeade.
This isn't just any old limeade. It's fresh-squeezed right when you order it, and it comes in several flavors. In the photo is the ginger mint, cucumber honeydew and raspberry. Each variety is vibrant and fresh because they're not mixing the lime juice with syrup - it's all fresh fruit, mixed with a little bit of raw sugar. Pure heaven in a glass.
Biscuits aren't just for breakfast. Sweet Lake also serves some tasty lunch biscuits.
This is the Titanic - a fried chicken breast, Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, bacon, YeeHaw spicy pickles and spicy mustard. The chips are house made, too.
The Pokey Joe is sweet and tangy.
It comes with pulled pork, limeade salsa, slaw, cheddar and crispy onions.
Are you a bread pudding fan?
If so, you've got to try this. It isn't on the regular menu, but it goes on special often.
