I'm always surprised how manly people visit the Ogden Valley just to go boating at Pineview Reservoir, but never stop to explore this pretty valley and its many attractions. There's a little saloon hiding up there that's not only delightful - it's also the oldest continually operating bar in the Beehive State. Take a look:

The Shooting Star Saloon opened its doors in 1879, and has been serving beer, burgers and good times ever since.

This quaint little saloon has been featured on television shows and in national magazines. You'll find it at 7350 E. 200 S., in Huntsville.

Make no mistake, this is a bar, not a restaurant. Leave your kids at home - this place is fun for adults only.

The Shooting Star definitely has all the legal requirements covered with these signs. If you wander in here without knowing that this is an establishment that serves alcohol, then you've probably already had too much to drink.

This little saloon manages to pack in a whole lot of entertainment, memorabilia and even seating into a very small space.

In its more than 135 years of business, the saloon has only had seven owners.

From the old-school jukebox to the dollar bills hanging from the ceiling, this place has layers of history.

Since this saloon is the oldest continually operating bar in the Beehive State, you might wonder how it stayed open during Prohibition. The legend is that it did in fact keep serving alcohol. The owners relied on friends to alert them when police were on the way. When the owner did finally get arrested, his wife kept the place open. They took turns sitting in lockup and running the bar, trying the patience of local law enforcement until Prohibition was repealed.

In addition to moose and pronghorn heads, Shooting Star also has a jackalope and a stuffed St. Bernard mounted on the walls.

The St. Bernard is "Buck," who belonged to a previous owner. Buck appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest St. Bernard in the world - an honor he held for seven years. When he died in 1957, he was given a permanent place in the saloon.

You could spend an entire afternoon here, just looking at all the memorabilia on the walls.

The cheeseburgers here are legendary. Even if you don't drink, you should stop by just to try one.

The Star Burger has two beef patties and a Polish knockwurst. with gooey cheddar melted all over everything.

Shooting Star Saloon is open seven days a week.

Visit Monday through Saturday from 11 AM to 9 PM; Sunday from 11 AM to 8 PM.
