Some of the best dining spots in Utah are the little neighborhood cafes where you can get a good cup of coffee and a big stack of homemade pancakes to nosh on while hanging out with your friends. Over the Counter Cafe in Millcreek is just such a place and if you've never checked this place out, you need to go soon.
Start your day off right with a trip to Over The Counter Cafe. It's a humble little restaurant in Millcreek, and it's been around since 1983.
This place is an old-school cafe with a friendly vibe that just might be your favorite new breakfast spot. It serves breakfast and lunch, seven days a week.
Be prepared to be engulfed in the tantalizing aromas of sizzling bacon when you walk in the door. If your stomach wasn't already growling when you got here, it'll surely be making some noise now.
What's that big pot of potatoes on the stove? That's your home fries! They don't come frozen out of the bag here; they're made fresh all morning long from whole potatoes.
You have plenty of breakfast options on the menu, and they're all absolutely delicious. You'll find more than 20 different omelets on the menu. These three-egg masterpieces are light and fluffy, and they're stuffed with fresh, top-quality ingredients and served with a heaping pile of those homemade home fries.
Piles of pancakes and plates of French toast with sliced fruit await, too. And yes — they taste every bit as good as they look.
On weekends, enjoy the "Trainwreck," which consists of a huge serving a homefries accompanied by two eggs, sausage, chopped bacon, cheddar, green peppers, and onions, then topped with creamy country gravy. It's served with a side of toast.
If you're too much of a sleepy head to make it there in the morning, stop by for lunch. The burgers here are legendary, and there are 10 different versions to try. They come with potato chips, but it's well worth the small upgrade to have a pile of those home fries on the side.
A decent array of sandwiches and salad round out the menu. Oh, and you're going to want to tuck into a cup of the homemade chili during your visit.
Bring your friends and family to Over the Counter Cafe seven days a week. It's open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
See the full menu at Over the Counter Cafe's website, and follow the cafe's Facebook page to see what homemade grub is coming off the grill this morning.
