Many of Utah's most beautiful small towns are fairly conservative and straight-laced. However, there are a few places here where you can let your hair down, hike, bike and play all day, then relax with a beer and your friends around a campfire. If that's the definition of the word, "hippie," then Moab might just be the most "hippie" town in the Beehive State.
With a population of just over 5,000 people, Moab is a small town with big scenery.
Located on the Colorado Plateau, it's surrounded by Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, and the Colorado River.
Moab's vibrant downtown area sits in the shadow of immense red rock cliffs. There's literally nowhere you can go in this town where you won't witness nature's splendor.
If the word "hippie" is defined by a love of and respect for nature, then Moab is definitely the place to go if you think you're a hippie. You could spend years exploring this place and still not see it all.
While you're here, you'll definitely want to visit Arches National Park.
Dead Horse Point State Park is just a few miles southwest of Moab, and its views are jaw-dropping.
Canyonlands National Park covers 337,598 acres and is so spectacular that you'll want to spend at least an entire day just taking photos.
If you're looking for some white-knuckle fun, take your jeep through Hell's Revenge. Better yet, go on a tour with a company like Dan Mick's Jeep Tours, where you'll have the benefit of a professional driver.
Moab is well-known for its artistic community. If nature is a muse, then this is the place to be. You'll find tons of art galleries here. You can also take art classes at the Moab Arts & Recreation Center to develop your own artistic side.
You'll also find plenty of vegan and vegetarian-friendly restaurants here. Don't worry - if you're a carnivore, you can definitely find some great burgers, too.
After a long day of exploring, head to one of Moab's bars and taverns for a drink with friends.
The off-season is the best time to visit Moab! Take a look at this video posted on YouTube by Moab Area Travel Council to see why:
