Utahns love burgers. One of our most popular articles ever was our list of the best burger joints in Utah. Some Utahns agreed with our 11 choices, others expressed disbelief that we'd left out their favorites and many readers recommended restaurants we'd missed. Pretty much everyone who commented was absolutely passionate about burgers.
One of the burger joints we missed was Burger Stop in Layton. It was quickly apparent that this restaurant not only serves incredibly tasty burgers, but it also has an active role in the neighborhood. From car shows to Christmas light hayrides that benefit charities, Burger Stop is constantly finding ways to give back to the community. Check this place out!
Burger Stop opened in 1993 with the motto, "Do what the competition won't do and do it better." The Theobold family owns and operates the restaurant.
Step inside, and step back in time! The interior is decorated 50s-style, with memorabilia, photos and antiques.
The food at Burger Stop is fresh and locally-sourced whenever possible.
As the restaurant's name implies, the burgers really are the stars on the menu. This is the Spare Tire - one pound of ground beef, three slices of cheese and two strips of bacon (plus lettuce and tomato).
Once you've tackled the Spare Tire, you might be ready to try The Deuce. It's two pounds of hamburger, five slices of cheese and four strips of thick-cut bacon.
If you can eat the whole thing in less than 30 minutes, you get a much-coveted "The Deuce" t-shirt.
Other menu items are tasty, too. Sandwiches include items like this turkey, bacon, avocado and ham grilled sandwich.
The fish and chips are another favorite menu item.
Burger Stop serves breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on weekdays; 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday. They're famous for their Utah scones.
The restaurant serves up plenty of ice cream confections, all made with local Farr's Better Ice Cream. This is the popular Grasshopper Shake.
Burger Stop is active in the community. From April through October, the restaurant hosts a car show, featuring as many as 150 classic cars.
Hundreds of people come from all over the state to admire the cars and bikes, eat some burgers and mingle. The event is free and runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
During the holiday season, Burger Stop teams up with Layton City, Wasatch Rods and Custom Car Club to provide hayrides through the Christmas Light Display at Layton City Park. Start your evening by visiting Santa inside Burger Stop.
Then, pile onto the truck for a hayride. The first wagon leaves at 6:00 p.m.; the last one leaves at 8:30 p.m.
This year's hayrides are available on December 2nd and 3rd, 9th and 10th, 16th and 17th. All proceeds to go to charity.
