Alongside thick-cut steak, BBQ, sweet tea, and other iconic dishes, tacos are one of our major food groups here in Texas. Fortunately, every year, one of the coolest things to do in Marshall, TX is to hit up a fantastic festival that celebrates them to the fullest! The East Texas Taco Festival is one of the most delicious special events of the year, and it's definitely worth noting on your calendar. With live entertainment, drinks, and one of the most delicious dishes on the planet, you won't want to miss this fiesta!
The small city of Marshall, Texas is home to about 20,000 people and isn't exactly a major tourist destination...until now, that is.
Who doesn't love tacos? At the East Texas Taco Fest, there'll be tons of vendors serving up all sorts of delicious noms. Everything from Tex-Mex to authentic, ground beef to pulled pork, and all the toppings you could imagine.
All different forms of entertainment will be taking place throughout the day, including live music (both mariachi and regular bands)...
...Lucha Libre wrestling (featuring a real professional from Mexico City!)...
...Chihuahua races...
...a jalapeno eating contest...
...a parade that ends with the crowing of the Taco Fest Queen...
...and a beer garden and margarita tent where you can vote for your favorite drinks made by local bars and restaurants!
Sounds pretty delicious to us!
The 2024 East Texas Taco Festival festival is slated to take place in September, with final dates still TBA on the Visit Marshall, Texas website and the official tourism Facebook page. Tickets are available at the gate.
That said, tortilla-wrapped foods are serious business in this city! In late spring, Marshall also typically hosts a "Taco 'Bout Marshall" special taco event, which is worth a visit as well.
Now, who's ready to eat some tacos? We sure are! Throughout the year, Marshall is home to a number of pretty neat festivals, like the FireAnt Festival in fall, Dixieland on the Square, and much more. You'll also want to immerse yourself in the town's fantastic railroad history!
