In the 1880s, Shiner, Texas was a trading post called Half Moon. For a long time, this place remained a sleepy little town with nothing in it. In fact, there wasn't even a railroad coming through.
All of this changed when a man named Henry B. Shiner stepped in.
In 1887, Henry B. Shiner made an offer with the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway that changed the course of this town. He gave the railway company 250 acres of land in exchange for a depot and right-of-way. This railroad ran right through his property, and people started moving here in droves.
