If you've lived in Texas for any significant amount of time, you know our small towns are home to the best food in the state. One of the tiniest of them all, Round Top, is no exception, with a restaurant so popular, hungry patrons travel for hours just to chow down on the homestyle cuisine.
Round Top has a population of just 85, but it attracts visitors from all over Texas for one reason and one alone: food (of course).
Royers Round Top Café, a charming restaurant that serves up classic Southern comforts, has developed something of a cult following - and all it takes is one bite to understand why.
Step inside and prepare to be overcome with nostalgia as you take in the surroundings.
It's a tiny restaurant, but every inch of space is utilized. Old photographs and vintage signs cover the walls, transporting diners back to the good old days.
A quick scan of the menu reveals more deliciousness than you bargained for.
You'll see down-home favorites like chicken-fried steak, pork tenderloin, and shrimp 'n grits, all lovingly prepared with real, fresh ingredients and a whole lot of heart.
Sundays are for the fried chicken special, served from 11 a.m. until there's no more left.
This isn't just any fried chicken - it's marinated in butter and garlic for 24 hours, hand-battered, and fried to crispy perfection. The meal is served family-style with mashed potato casserole and creamed corn.
You can't eat at Royers without trying a slice of their world-famous pie, so make sure to save some room.
There are a dozen different types from which to choose, ranging from classics like buttermilk and apple to fun flavors such as "Texas Trash," which features chocolate chips, pretzels, coconut, caramel, and graham crackers.
Can't make it to the restaurant? No problem - Royers ships their pie nationwide!
