Fried chicken is just one of those foods that, when accompanied by the right side dishes and eaten in a small-town restaurant, takes us back to Sunday supper at grandma's house. Babe's Chicken Dinner House certainly fits the bill, serving up down-home classics guaranteed to satisfy even the most Texas-sized appetites. This old-school restaurant serves some of the best chicken dinners in Texas.
Although Babe's has ten locations across Texas, none compare to the original in historic downtown Roanoke. It opened just under 20 years ago, but the building dates back to 1908.
As soon as you taste these scrumptious meals, you'll understand why Babe's has become one of those classic Texas chain restaurants.
Once inside, the rustic atmosphere will warm your soul in the way only small-town restaurants can. Quirky signage covers all four walls, depicting everything from Texas memorabilia to the names of standout employees.
Customers love the jukebox: a machine so simple with the ability to turn back the hands of time. Put on your favorite tune and do a little boogie in the dining room.
As for the food, better chicken simply doesn't exist. Hand-breaded, spiced just right, and fried to perfection, it's the closest thing around to grandma's home-cooking.
If you're looking for comfort food in Texas, you'll be hard pressed to come up with any place better. This chicken joint will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Make sure you don't forget the sides. Buttermilk biscuits, corn, and mashed potatoes and cream gravy could almost make a meal by themselves!
You'll find the restaurant at 104 North Oak Street,
Roanoke, TX 76262. They're open daily for lunch and dinner.
