Since I wrote about the best hamburgers in Texas the first time, I realized that one article about awesome places to grab a burger just wasn't enough. Our state is huge! So huge that, truth be told, it can be a challenge to compile where to find the best burgers in Texas. That's where you came in! So, I read through all of your comments and compiled a list of YOUR favorite burger joints throughout the state - from hole-in-the-wall dive bars to roadside shacks to upscale restaurants and everything in between. Back by popular demand, and in no particular order, I give you 14 more of the best burger joints in Texas that you should definitely check out this year.
1. Adair's Saloon, Dallas
Live country music, a mouthwatering burger, and cold beer make a splash at Adair's Saloon. What else could you need in life?
2. Casino El Camino/Sixth Street Bar and Grill, Austin
The thickest, juiciest burgers of you life can be found right here at this underground-esque dive bar. Casino el Camino boasts a number of burger accoutrements to satisfy every craving, including avocado, cheddar-onion, and so much more - all served up in massive portions. My recommendation: try the Amarillo burger with Verde Chili fries. Yum!
3. Coyote Bluff Café, Amarillo
Coyote Bluff Cafe is a tiny burger joint that has been featured on Man Vs. Food, so you know they don't play around when it comes to burgers. Recommended: Burger From Hell and cheese fries. Uniquely, tiny though it may be, this funky little restaurant (where drinks are served out of a bathtub and flowers are planted in a commode) has a range of burger options that can be as classic or as high-end as you'd like.
4. Crow's Burger Shop, Belton/Temple
Both Crow's Burger Shop locations have a long-standing tradition of serving the best burgers in Bell County, so give them a visit if you want a classic, delicious burger from the cutest burger shack in the state.
5. DUBL-R Old Fashioned Hamburgers, Waco
Another hole-in-the-wall, DUBL-R does burgers better than any place in Waco, at least according to locals. Juicy, seared to perfection, and served alongside the most dreamy golden fries you've ever seen - now that's a burger! Be sure to check out the endless walls of license plates while you're here.
6. Herd's Hamburgers, Jacksboro
Serving up no-frills, cooked to order burgers since 1916, Herd's Hamburgers is one of the few burger joints in Texas that still knows how to make a delicious traditional burger that all generations of meat-lovers will love.
7. Hubcap Grill, Houston/Galveston/Pearland
Voted "Houston's Best Burger," Hubcap Grill has multiple locations to choose from, where you'll find unique burgers with fresh cut ingredients. They have traditional burgers, as well as burgers like Cheesy Cheeto and Frito Pie for the more adventurous eaters out there. Not feeling a full burger for your meal? Opt for the fully-loaded Bloody Mary - it comes with a slider on top!
8. Keller's Drive In, Dallas
You come to Keller's Drive-In for two things: a great burger made fresh and simple, and the classic drive-in experience that will transport you right back to the 60s. But don't mistake this for any old burger shack - the poppy seed buns here have really made a name for themselves. Bring some cash, and make sure to thank your carhop!
9. Lankford Grocery & Market, Houston
Featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives, you will have to try this old fashioned burger joint out for yourself to understand why Houstonians absolutely rave about it. Lankford Grocery & Market is a little tough to find, but trust when we say this hidden gem is worth it!
10. Mac and Ernie's Roadside Eatery, Tarpley
Both Guy Fieri and Andrew Zimmern have been to Mac and Ernie's, so this tells you that serious burgers are being made at this cute little hole-in-the-wall. Definitely try the Cabrito burger! If you still have room, you'll also find some tasty BBQ, sandwiches, and other phenomenal backyard eats here. But seriously... this quiet roadside stop serves up some of the best burgers in Texas.
11. MG's, Sherman
MG's is a down-home retro diner that serves delicious burgers, southern dishes, and desserts that will leave your mouth watering for days. The funky garage themed digs are pretty sweet too! Recommended: the Hot Rod Ford burger.
12. Pop's Burger Stand, Waxahachie
Pop's Burger Stand is an absolute classic. Try the Tank or the El Camino, and definitely the hand-cut fries and/or onion rings!
13. The Shack Burger Resort, Cypress - CLOSED
Editor's Note: Sadly, the Shack has permanently closed. For more of the best hamburgers in Texas, check out one of the other entries on our list!
The menu here is just too much for words; simply put, if you want unique food creations in a laid-back outdoor setting, you won't want to miss out on this place.
14. Tookie's, Kemah/Seabrook
If you want a mean burger, you have to try Tookie's. You'll find all the classics here, as well as creative (and sky-high) burger options that are loaded with flavor and attention to detail. The Squealer and Champion are among some of the favorite menu items, and since 1975, people can't seem to get enough.
Everyone knows everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes the sheer number of burger stands, grills, restaurants, and everything in between! Fantastic new hamburger joints are always popping up here in the Lonestar State, and we'd love to hear your favorites. So tell us - what's your go-to for the best burgers in Texas?
