Everyone knows how we Texans feel about our mom and pop restaurants - unfortunately, that means there are so many to choose from that it can be overwhelming at times. If there's one you should make a priority to try, it should be Poor Richard's Cafe in Plano. You'll be hard pressed to find better Southern food, more hospitable service, or an atmosphere as homey and inviting. And did I mention the food is amazing?
With a menu you could get lost in, some of the highest quality food around, and waitstaff as friendly as can be, Poor Richard's is easily one of the most popular brunch places in Plano.
I think it's safe to say that eggs are their specialty - whether you like 'em poached, scrambled, sunny-side up, or Benedict, they deliver every time.
Their chicken-fried steak is so popular, it had to be added to the breakfast menu! Portion size isn't something they skimp on here - these delicious slabs of meat are bigger than a grown man's hand!
If sweet and savory combos are your jam, don't worry. You'll have plenty of scrumptious options to choose from, like this fluffy pecan waffle with a side of bacon and grits...
...or the iconic duo that is chicken and waffles. Yum!
Poor Richard's is open for lunch as well, and the menu items are just as plentiful and tasty. Shrimp and grits is a staple here in the south, but they take it to another level by blackening the shrimp and adding cheese and chives.
Have you ever been to Poor Richard's? What about any of these mom and pop restaurants in Texas?
