Even those of us who grew up in small-town Texas probably didn't churn butter too often as a child, but almost everything else on our dinner tables was made from scratch. You can relive those delicious memories at the Butter Churn, an all-you-can-eat buffet in Aransas Pass that serves up country cooking just like mom and grandma used to make. From chicken-fried steak to coconut cream pie and everything in between, the buffet line is brimming with Southern classics and a side of nostalgia.
The number one rule at the Butter Churn in Aransas Pass is to always come hungry, and you'll understand why after just one look at the buffet line.
Family-owned and operated for a quarter-century, this charming restaurant features all-you-can-eat country cooking using recipes handed down over three generations.
Upon entrance, you'll feel like you've stepped back into the Old West.
The interior is outfitted to look just like an old cow town, complete with a trading post, an old bank, and several other buildings iconic of the era.
It's a lunch and dinner buffet, and a different entrée is offered every day except Monday.
Your eyes will undoubtedly grow larger than your stomach as you grab a plate and peruse the selection. There are over two dozen main dishes alone over the course of a week, plus a bevy of mouthwatering Southern sides just like mom and grandma used to make.
Although you might be tempted to skip the salad bar and go straight for the meat and potatoes, trust us when we say that would be a grave mistake.
With over 40 different items, the salad bar here is a far cry from the rabbit food most restaurants serve.
Let the smell of Southern-fried chicken fill your nostrils as you head back for round two.
Other meats include chicken-fried steak, pork chops, grilled chicken, liver and onions, and so many other scrumptious selections.
Sides include all the usual suspects like mac and cheese, fried okra, corn, green beans and pretty much all the other staples you grew up eating.
It's a good thing there's no limit on how many plates you can get - only those with a special kind of willpower could stop at one!
Oh, and don't forget about the homemade rolls, either.
They're baked from scratch all throughout the day, and biting into one feels like eating a cloud. They're delicious with butter, but our personal preference is tearing off little pieces to sop up all the leftover juices from the meal.
No matter how full you are, try to save room for dessert.
From coconut cream pie to the most luscious soft serve in South Texas, these decadent treats are the grand finale of an already unforgettable dining experience.
The Butter Churn also has a location in Sinton. Visit the restaurant's website or Facebook page to learn more.
