Although 2M Smokehouse has only been open about four years, it has quickly become one of the most celebrated barbecue joints in San Antonio. Founded by two friends who quit their jobs to pursue the pitmaster life, this unassuming counter-serve haunt often sells out of their iconic, slow-smoked meats in under two hours.
Perhaps the most notable menu item is the prime Angus brisket. It's tender, juicy, and seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper, the seared-to-perfection edges form something of a crust.
You can get brisket by-the-pound, or in taco form on Thursdays. The latter comes with a four-ounce side and your choice of an in-house made pickled item: nopales, serranos, bell peppers, and pico de gallo are the options.
If you can't make in on a Thursday, feel free to build your own tacos! Just order some corn or flour tortillas alongside your meal for a deliciously customizable dining experience.
On the first Sunday of each month, set your alarm early to snag some of 2M's famous barbacoa. Either get it solo, or as a meal deal with flour tortillas or pico de gallo.
Other meats include smoked turkey breast, pulled pork, and both beef and pork ribs. There's also sausage -- traditional beef and one with pork, serrano, and Oaxaca cheese. Side dishes like borracho beans, coleslaw, potato salad, Mexican street corn, and the iconic "Chicharoni Macaroni" with Oaxaca cheese and chicharrones put a unique spin on tried-and-true classics.
Dessert options change from day-to-day, so you'll have to check with the restaurant before placing an order. One thing's for sure: if the rest of 'em look anything like this banana pudding, you're in for a real treat.
