Everyone has heard of the Loveless Cafe, but what other restaurant in Nashville is as timeless and beautiful as the city itself? Where can you visit and enjoy a meal infused with southern culture, a place that serves up a side of hospitality with their menu?
We'll forever love The Standard at the Smith House, located in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. This gorgeous town home is the only one that still survives within the city - and you need to visit. ASAP.
Sophisticated southern fare is the name of the game at the upscale townhouse stuck hard in the center of downtown. Built in 1843, the gorgeous and historic brick building is perfect for an upscale date night or special dinner. Known as the Smith House, it has come to house The Standard - an award-winning restaurant known for its considerable aplomb.
As you can see, understated elegance and a tie to the buildings' past runs strong through the whole of the property. Here, history is lauded and protected, sustained by the loving hands of the owners and upheld by patrons. With three floors, two parlors, a huge kitchen, grand ballroom and expansive courtyard, you may be surprised at the sheer vastness of the tall and skinny building.
Pro tip: you'll want to dress up AND make a reservation. The Standard at the Smith House has been used for both weddings and as a media proponent, making a splash as a feature in the hit music video, "Whiskey Lullaby."
You'll find fine-tuned southern classics on the menu, and their dinner rolls are perfectly soft and delicious. The Smith House has also become a thriving event venue and cigar club, even being named one of the Top Five Private Cigar Clubs in the United States. That's quite the honor!
If you're planning on eating dinner, we'd recommend, "The Standard Filet." Speaking from experience, it's a brilliant crowd pleaser. There is also an option for, "Exotic Game" on the menu every evening, and you'll have to ask your server just what's in store if you decide to be so bold.
The Standard isn't one to play it safe, either - here's their wild game for the night. Any guesses? It's herbed, marinated KANGAROO.
Here you can see the home as it was in the 1960's. A little worse for wear, hey? The renovation has been complete and extensive, resulting in one of the most beautiful (and overlooked!) places in Music City. Although the property changed hands multiple times over the years, it was in the fall of 2005 that the current owners bought and restored the home to its previous glory.
The Standard at the Smith House is a historic spot in the heart of Nashville, a single call to the past that you can experience on your own - it simply takes a reservation. You can find the iconic townhouse at 167 Rosa L Parks Blvd, if you'd like.
