Finding a solid brewery in the heart of our big cities isn't too hard, is it? Nashville is veritably exploding, Memphis fills the streets of Beale with the stuff and Knoxville isn't too far behind. But what about our small towns? What about the folks who work hard in small places, who fully invest themselves into tiny communities and serve up solid brews without a stream of fanny pack toting tourists? In Columbia, Tennessee, roughly 45 minutes from Nashville we stumbled across Asgard Brewing Co. & Taproom - and we won't be leaving any time soon.
Asgard Brewery opened in October, 2016 and has a pretty neat vibe to it - the entire space has a Nordic theme. This is where you can indulge in Icelandic beers, made right here in the heart of Middle Tennessee.
Why the brewery capital, you say? Well, Columbia has managed to bring in quite a lot of new business in the last couple of years, and their beer game has been solidly increased with the new opening of Asgard. This is where you come to meet, "beer people," and hopefully be one of the handful at the fifteen-seater bar.
Asgard is located in the middle of downtown Columbia, which makes it perfect for folks just getting off of work or driving through the heart of the city. A perfect destination spot, the brewery makes quality craft beer with natural and locally sourced, Tennessee ingredients.
The atmosphere is bathed in the hard knock nostalgia of old Norse legends, sit at the distressed bar or order a flight served in a tiny Norse boat. Keep in mind, though - this tiny shop focuses on beer, not hefty fare for a hungry human. They do have fire pits and a food truck out back though, so make sure to check and see if you can indulge!
Because beer + eats are worth it. Always, always worth it.
We'll cheers to that! You can visit for yourself at 104 East 5th Street in Columbia, Tennessee.
These fun restaurants are located in renovated barns! How cool is that?
