South Dakota is a foodie's paradise, thanks to its many different farm-to-table restaurants, Mexican cafes, and sushi bars. While you have been to these kinds of places more times then you can count, you have not experienced all there is try until you dine at this unique South Dakota Scandinavian restaurant:
Located in Custer is Skogen Kitchen; a "chef-driven concept, offering innovative breakfast and dinner options."
Translated as "The Forest" in Norwegian, Skogen is quite possibly one of the most innovative restaurants in South Dakota not only for its food but for the ambiance as well.
Just where is Scandinavia? It is defined as Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, which pays homage to owners Joseph and Eliza Raney's Northern European heritage.
Now that you know where it is, what kind of food is Scandinavian? At Skogen, it is such deliciousness as this Goat Sausage with a white truffle polenta and poached egg...
...homemade carrot ravioli with a kohlrabi purée, parmesan, whipped honey, and toasted coriander...
...and Foie Gras with roasted honey crisp apples, lemon butter, and fried capers.
Don't forget to save room for dessert (like this incredible chocolate molten cake)!
Skogen Kitchen is located at 29 N 5th St. in Custer and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (with breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays).
