Sometimes the experience and the food at a restaurant is so good, it is worth any amount of driving to get to. Such is the case with this restaurant in the tiny town of Pringle, South Dakota. Only 112 people live in this town, located about halfway between Custer and Hot Springs, but their restaurant is a popular stop for more than just the locals. Get in the car and check it out for yourself, because you'll be ready to come back for more no matter how far it is.
The Hitchrail Bar & Restaurant has been serving up amazing food here for over half a century.
And yes, it does live up to its name!
You don't have to ride up on a horse if you don't have one, a car will do plenty well, but the rail is open for anyone who does have a trusty steed to tie.
The food at the Hitchrail is second to none.
It's owned and operated by the award winning chef Dennis Boitnott, or "Chef D." The steaks are to die for and the burgers will make your mouth water. Everything they make, they make from scratch, so don't expect fast food quality here. You are getting the best of the best - and it really shows.
All of the fries are hand cut and everything is made to perfection. The Blue Suede Burger, shown above, is one of my favorites!
There's more beyond the delicious burgers and steaks.
The Jalapeño Angels are a popular choice, and there are plenty of other options for everyone to love and enjoy. It isn't a place to get a small plate of something gourmet and exotic, but a place to get a hearty all-American meal that you're sure to love.
The Hitchrail Bar & Restaurant is located at 421 Northern St, Pringle, South Dakota.
They are not open on Mondays, so please keep that in mind if you are planning a trip to visit - and you definitely should! Here are some other awesome places to grab a bite in South Dakota.
