You may have had a sandwich in South Dakota, but you've never had one like this. These amazing sandwiches will knock your socks off and have you coming back for more. Tell your lunch buddies you're changing up your regular go-tos because you are going to want to try these sandwiches ASAP.
1. Ode to Food & Drinks in Sioux Falls.
Head to downtown Sioux Falls to have the best Swiss Patty Melt of your life. This sandwich at Ode to Food & Drinks, located in Cherapa Place, will have you raving. That's not the only stellar sandwich this place serves up. Ode also has a phenomenal Smoked Prime Rib Sandwich that comes with their legendary ghost pepper cheese sauce. Is your mouth watering yet?
2. Philly Ted's Cheesesteaks & Subs in Rapid City.
When we say South Dakota's best cheesesteak, we mean it. There's a good chance this is also South Dakota's biggest cheesesteak, though that part is open for debate. This sandwich is the winner of Black Hills Best Sandwich and we could not agree more. Great quality and even better service - you have to visit Philly Ted's.
3. The Pickle Barrel in Sioux Falls.
A local favorite for over 10 years, The Pickle Barrel is located off the beaten path, making it a hidden gem. These sandwiches are enormous! Pickle Barrel has a wide selection of hot and cold sandwiches which is good, because once you have one you're going to want to keep coming back. We wouldn't want you to get burned out on just one sandwich.
4. La Minestra in Pierre.
Can we just take minute to appreciate this beautiful pulled pork sandwich? It's a work of art that I can't wait to get in my belly. You have to travel to Pierre to get it but we guarantee you, it is well worth it. The chefs over at La Minestra are always cooking up fancy new sandwiches to try so visit often.
5. Old Market Eatery in Brookings.
(Note: as of September 16th, 2020, Old Market Eatery is temporarily closed). This old bank turned restaurant + bar is serving up some delicious combos. The sandwich pictured is their Rachel Grilled Cheese. It comes piled high with turkey, sauerkraut, bacon, peppers, onions, white American cheese and brandy mayo. Talk about flavor! They also have mouth-watering bacon and Brussels sprouts grilled cheese.
6. Muggsy's in Yankton.
(Note: as of September 16th, 2020, Muggsy's is permanently closed). Down in the southeast corner of the state you will find these amazing and astronomical in size sandwiches! At Muggsy's if you eat two 18" Steak and cheese Subs with at least two toppings, fries and a pop in 45 minutes you get your meal free and you make it on their wall of fame. If you aren't into stuffing yourself, you can still enjoy one of these amazing subs; you'll just have to pay.
7. Rowdy Hog Smokin' BBQ in Sioux Falls.
(Note: as of September 16th, 2020, Rowdy Hog Smokin' BBQ is permanently closed). The words beef brisket and smoked chicken should be enough to get your taste buds excited. Unbeatable BBQ is what you'll get at Rowdy Hog. You can get these sandwiches at their store or their food truck which is at local events such as Rib Fest. Trust us, you're going to love this one.
