Sweet Catherine’s in downtown Fountain Inn of the upstate area is a popular go-to lunch spot for the town. Its food philosophy from the day it opened in October of 2010 has been providing "southern food that would make our grandmothers proud," which means making food from scratch, not taking short cuts, and utilizing local products when available. And locals can’t get enough of what may just be the best homemade cakes in South Carolina served there.
Located on Main Street, Sweet Catherine’s is a quaint “sassy Southern cafe.”
Fountain Inn is located just off Interstate 385, making it a convenient stop while traveling between Columbia and Greenville to grab some lunch.
The atmosphere is nice, yet casual and relaxing. The local art work decor featured on the walls is available for purchase if you see something you love.
It has a charming outdoor patio area for those who enjoy dining outside.
Cake of the Day is available on the lunch menu and the following whole cakes to-go with 48 hours advanced notice: strawberry, coconut, mile-high chocolate, sweet potato, and red velvet, which has seasonal availability.
You’ll need to check with your server for the Cake of the Day options available on the day you’re there, but hopefully, the strawberry cake will be one of them. It’s the most popular selection, moist with bits of strawberry and delicious buttercream icing. It’s to die for, worth every calorie!
Another customer favorite is the coconut cake, the best you’ll find in the region.
There may be other types of sweet treats available, such as this Cowboy Candy, “full of yummy sweet heat,” which sounds different and interesting!
There are plenty of options to choose from for your main course. This is The Rachel, added to the menu in 2020. It’s an updated spin on the classic Reuben made with turkey instead of corned beef.
Sweet Catherine’s was the Taste Inn 2021 Grand Prize winner. Taste Inn is a Main Street event put on annually in May by the Fountain Inn Chamber of Commerce to support local restaurants.
A proud town with a small-town feel, the City of Fountain Inn asked the Fountain Inn High School Principal, Ms. Tiller, how she recommends spending the day on Main Street. Sweet Catherine’s was her choice for lunch!
Open only for lunch, you will want to check Sweet Catherine’s website prior to visiting to confirm what days it’s open, as it used to be closed on Mondays as well as during the weekend. Follow Sweet Catherine’s Facebook page for updates and additional information.
