You don't have to wait for Halloween to get your fright on at this South Carolina eatery. From wine glasses that have mysteriously smashed to the floor in the bar to mysterious figures spotted in the upstairs windows — and more, this old house-turned-restaurant is about as haunted as it gets. And the bonus? Not only can you eat at this spooky restaurant where the food and wine are delicious, but you can also take a ghost tour of the building!
The first ghostly thing you should know about the Brentwood is it's been moved from its original location over on the corner of McCorsley Avenue to the current location on Luck Avenue. That couldn't have made the lingering spirits here very happy.
The next thing that may have activated the spirits is that after the original owner died in the early 1970s, the house was sold three times during the 70s. Each time, the new owners made it into a restaurant and changed the name — probably redecorated too. If you're familiar with things that upset ghostly residents, then you know that probably did the trick.
Nowadays, Brentwood Restaurant and Wine Bistro occupies the old home. They opened in 2007. It may be the longest the building has belonged to one family since the original owner died here in the 70s.
It's quite a popular eatery with top-class food and is also known for its fantastic wine selection. It's also known for the wine glasses that somehow keep falling off the tables and also from their perch in the bar. They don't just fall, they smash with force to the ground.
For sure, workers and patrons have witnessed multiple ghostly things in this creepy house. They even report seeing someone in the upstairs window when there has clearly not been anyone there. They also hear someone sighing in the hallway. Equipment starts by itself. Before they banned smoking in the restaurant ashtrays would inch to the edge of the table and then fall off. Now, it's wine glasses. Yikes!
And many people go home, browse through their photos only to find they've been orb-bombed by ghostly energies manifesting as balls of light. Orbs are usually detected by cameras and not seen by the naked eye.
Eating at Brentwood Restaurant is a truly memorable experience. From the amazing food and wine to the ever unexpected ghostly happening, this is one super haunted spot in the Palmetto State.
Now, about that ghost tour. If you want to add a ghost tour to your dinner plans at the Brentwood then you may. You'll just need to make reservations on a date when the dinner/tour combination is offered. You can find those dates on their official website calendar. The tour offers access to parts of the house you may not get to see on other nights. However, the hauntings at Brentwood happen randomly and NOT just on tour nights, so your chances of seeing a ghost any old day at this eatery are equally as good as during a tour.
Brentwood Restaurant and Wine Bistro is located at 4269 State Rd. S-26-852, Little River, SC 29566. They do take reservations, but walk-ins are also welcome. (The ghosts don't care if you're a person that plans ahead...)
Do you believe in ghosts? I do! For more hauntings in South Carolina take a look at the old jail where it's reported more than 14,000 people died over the years it was open.
