After all, who doesn't love the juicy smell and tasty reward of finding a great BBQ joint?
Hemingway, in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina, was created in 1911 from a tiny little crossroads. Today, more than 100 years later, she's still a small town and has a population of a barely more than 400.But little doesn't mean they want for anything. The picturesque little haven has more businesses, really, than you may expect a town of this size would normally have. They even have their own newspaper, The Weekly Observer.
And they have this little gem of restaurant/variety store/place to sit for spell. This one place is perhaps, the most famous thing about Hemingway.
Scott's BBQ
Scott's BBQ has earned national notoriety many times over. It's been featured in publications from the local Observer to The New York Times and many other publications and online publishers too.
Big D's B-B-Q Barn
But Scott's isn't the only BBQ game in town. Big D's has a place here and there are many more BBQ restaurants within a stone's throw of Hemingway, but technically in other nearby communities.
Indeed, BBQ is so much a way of life for Hemingwayans it's actually celebrated for three days each year.
Hemingway's South Carolina BBQ and Shag Festival - usually held the first full weekend in April.
As if having world-famous Scott's BBQ located right in Hemingway wasn't enough, this tiny town of 400 also plays host to the Annual South Carolina BBQ and Shag Festival.
The three-day festival is held each year in April and features a BBQ Cook-off (of course), a midway, vendors and a car show. Oh, and LOTS of BBQ!
The 2017 event featured "Mr. Woooo" himself, a world famous wrestler. As the photo above suggests, this celeb had "bling and swag before it was cool."
