Anyone who eats food in SF knows that the sandwich holds a special place in the pantheon of wonderful things that people will go crazy about. Why? SF is a city known for gourmet food, creative, and expensive toast. So, the BBQ sandwich is not a San Francisco thing, but we do have some notable BBQ spots around the city and the Bay. All in all, the San Francisco Bay area has 10 spots for creative and tasty BBQ sandwiches waiting to be discovered!
1. Rhea’s Deli & Market - 800 Valencia Street, San Francisco, 94110
The chicken BBQ sandwiches their premiere sandwich. Also, try the Vegetarian BBQ Chicken Sandwich. Rhea's sandwiches are addictively delicious, so you can't go wrong here.
2. Tommy's Joynt - 1101 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, 94108
BBQ Brisket sandwich and their baked beans are well known. This is a place that refuses to change, but this is for the better. This place is unforgettable from the moment you arrive, take some time to appreciate the giant vintage neon sign. But, don't forget to try the BBQ sandwich or corned beef!
3. 4505 Burgers & BBQ - 705 Divisadero Street, 94117
Try the pulled chicken bbq sandwich with coleslaw, bbq sauce, and pickles. Venture out of touristy areas and try this surprisingly authentic spot in NOPA. Your taste buds will be happy here!
4. CatHead's BBQ - 1665 Folsom Street, San Francisco, 94103
Order the Coca Cola beef brisket sandwich with a side of beans and you won't be disappointed. The signature dishes at CatHead’s BBQ include Slow Smoked Pulled Pork, Coca-Cola Smoked Brisket, Maker’s Mark Portobello Mushrooms and Sweet Tea BBQ Chicken.
5. Java Beach Cafe - 1396 La Playa Street, San Francisco, 94122
Try the BBQ Chicken Sandwich at Java Beach Cafe. The sandwich is tasty, and comes with a bag of chips too. Java Beach has a location in the Outer Sunset and Parkside.
6. Roadside BBQ - 5000 Northgate Mall, Ste 135, San Rafael, 94903
Try out the Mr. Brisket sandwich and fall in love. You'll enjoy enjoy some mighty fine BBQ meals in a comfortable, friendly, and "down home" atmosphere.
7. Memphis Minnie's - 576 Haight Street, San Francisco, 94117
One of the better BBQ places in the city and area. In terms of sandwiches, go for the slow-smoked Texas Beef Brisket. The smoked fried chicken is a hit too.
8. Wexler’s Back - 568 Sacramento Street, San Francisco, 94111
This is Southern BBQ with an Upscale Twist that you can either get from the restaurant or their truck. One of their signature items is a pulled lamb sandwich with watermelon vinegar and pickled watermelon rinds.
9. Bonehead’s Texas BBQ - 3422 Mt Diablo Blvd, Lafayette, 94549
If you want to experience why Texas is know for it's BBQ than goto Boneheads BBQ. The brisket sandwich is popular, and the generous portions make many people happy as well. Venture out of the city for a taste of real BBQ.
10. Bounty Hunter Wine Bar & Smokin’ BBQ - 975 1st St, Napa, 94559
BBQ paired with wine, well Napa offers great BBQ sandwich combos. The chicken BBQ sandwich is worthwhile, but you'll have to drive out to Napa Valley.
