Dining out in Rhode Island is always an adventure, whether we want to indulge in a scrumptious seafood dish as we gaze out over the Atlantic or we feel like sinking our teeth into a classic New York system at our favorite diner. When we want to relax with a tasty meal and a cold drink, we make our way to this fire station-turned-restaurant in Providence, Rhode Island. It serves an assortment of classic dishes and boasts 33 flatscreen TVs, so we'll never miss the big game.
A drive down Douglas Avenue in Providence will inevitably lead you past Ladder 133 Kitchen & Social, a popular restaurant that still retains the charm of its former life as a fire station. Do yourself a favor and pull over for a delicious bite.
Built in 1902, the former fire station housed the Union Hook and Ladder Company No. 3.
Mementos from its past life decorate the former firehouse, but the masterpiece of the Providence restaurant is, arguably, the solid mahogany bar that dates back to the late 1800s.
The bar traveled 2,000 miles from a storage facility in Denver to its new home at Ladder 133 in Providence. If you look closely, you might even spot one of the bullet holes the bar sustained during its time in San Francisco, Nevada, or Arizona.
Your seating options aren't limited to the bar or the dining area. If you're visiting during the warmer months, grab a seat at the outdoor bar or one of the tables.
Before you decide what to eat, browse the drinks menu that features a little bit of everything - bottled and draft beer, wine, and cocktails. How about sharing a margarita pitcher with the table?
The food menu is chock full of flavorful and classic pub fare, so make sure you're good and hungry when you arrive. Kicking off with an appetizer? Try the wings, onion ring tower, or a giant Bavarian pretzel.
Or how about a slider? You'll just have to decide if you want chicken parmesan, hot chicken, or BBQ chicken.
All burgers come with fries or a salad, or sink your teeth into one of the flavorful sandwiches, paired with such sides as fried egg, pickles, or onion rings.
You can't go wrong with one of the grilled pizzas. From BBQ chicken to vegetarian, there's a pie for every taste.
