Providence has a pretty diverse dining scene, and it seems as if a new elegant eatery is opening in the city every week. But on those days when nothing but a quirky dive bar will do, forego the fancy wine lounge and head to Captain Seaweed's. This neighborhood gem is nautical-themed, and the patio is often packed with pirates who are clearly having a great time.
Captain Seaweed's is a true hidden gem -- it's located in a residential neighborhood (the Fox Point neighborhood, to be exact) in Providence.
It doesn't look like much from the street, but don't let this exterior fool you. It's fantastic.
This place definitely has the nautical / pirate theme down.
The decor is quirky and maybe even a bit kitschy, but that just makes us love it even more.
While indoor seating is available here, the vast majority of customers head straight to the backyard patio.
You'll feel like you've just discovered a private tropical island.
Whether you prefer beer from a can or a classic cocktail, you'll find it on the menu at Captain Seaweed's.
The drinks here tend to be both a little on the strong side and reasonable priced, so plan for a designated driver.
In addition to a delightful selection of drinks, Captain Seaweed's serves some pretty tasty stuffies.
When you visit, come hungry for a snack.
Last summer, the backyard area was renovated, so now it's (somehow) even better.
All it takes is spending one afternoon or evening here to fall in love with the entire experience.
Captain Seaweed's is open Monday - Saturday from 3 p.m. until midnight.
Check their Facebook regularly for any updates on their business hours.
