Portland has seen explosive growth in new restaurants throughout the last decade. However, there are many older restaurants that have stood the test of time and are still notable and worth a visit. Here are 10 of the oldest restaurants in the city. Next time you drive by, stop in for a bite and enjoy a little slice of local history with your meal.
1. Jake's Famous Crawfish
Nearly a historic landmark, this Portland mainstay has been continually operating since 1892. Classic seafood dishes abound at Jake's prime location on SW 12th Avenue in downtown.
2. Huber's Cafe
Reigning oldest restaurant, Huber's on SW 3rd Avenue has been operating since 1879. Known for its year-round turkey dinner, this classic spot is as popular as ever.
3. Holman's Bar and Grill
Around since 1933, Holman's draws a crowd for its DIY Bloody Mary bar and delicious burgers. It is located at SE 28th and Burnside.
4. Clyde's Prime Rib Restaurant and Bar
This restaurant has a dark past as the "Coon Chicken Inn," and though it has left its past behind, it still has the look of a 1950s restaurant complete with red velvet booths. Enjoy local music here while dining on a prime rib. Clyde's is located on NE Sandy Boulevard.
5. Stanich's
Generous burgers and hand-cut fries have been served up at this NE Fremont location since 1949.
6. Amalfi's Restaurant
Another NE Fremont institution, Amalfi's should be your Italian comfort food go-to. Open since 1959, Amalfi's serves up great food with craft beers and cocktails.
7. Nite Hawk Cafe and Lounge
Located on Interstate, this classic American diner has been in operation since 1931. Enjoy a chicken fried steak breakfast, or head to the lounge for cocktails.
8. Skyline Restaurant
Since 1930 this nostalgic diner in the West Hills has been serving up burgers from its Skyline Boulevard location.
9. The Original Pancake House
This original location for the company which now boasts over 100 franchise locations nationwide, has been in operation since 1953. Head down to SW 24th to experience where all the hype started.
10. Otto's Sausage Kitchen
If a fresh off the grill sausage is what you crave, this is the place to make that a reality. Otto's has been in operation first as a meat market starting in 1922, and then in its current SE Woodstock location serving up sausages since 1936.
