Less than an hour from Pittsburgh, along an unassuming street, sits a tiny shop that makes donuts that have brought joy to generations of Pennsylvanians for nearly eight decades. Oram's Donut Shop, which serves the best donuts in Pittsburgh, will make you feel like a kid again as you muse over what donut to try this visit or which to add to make a dozen. Whatever you choose, you're pretty much assured a delicious treat you won't soon forget.
Oram's Donut Shop, on Seventh Street in Beaver Falls, has been serving homemade donuts for 77 years, promising donut lovers an experience they just can't find at a local donut chain.
Donuts are made fresh each day. The quaint Beaver Falls donut shop prides itself on making delicious donuts, focusing on the quality of their donuts rather than the quantity.
That means donut lovers are in for a delicious surprise. Oram's donuts are generally a lot bigger than the donuts you get at a typical chain store. In fact, Oram's claims their popular cinnamon roll donuts are typically twice the size of the competition.
Your biggest challenge will be choosing which donuts to try. Oram's menu features traditional cake donuts, like vanilla cake, chocolate cake, blueberry cake, and maple iced cake and such raised donut favorites as glazed, sugar, and toasted coconut.
Or, maybe you prefer a little flair with your donut. Oram's got you covered with their filled donuts. Fillings include custard, pudding, blueberry jelly, raspberry jelly, and strawberry jelly.
Some donuts only appear seasonally. You might find key lime pie and orange cremesicle donuts during the summer; peanut butter cup and pumpkin cake donuts during the fall (and winter); and cherry cake and chopped apple-filled donuts in the winter. Call Oram's to find out what's available daily.
Sure, you came for the donuts but don't forget to check out Oram's other homemade goodies – brownies, muffins, lady locks, and crème horns.
Visit Oram's Donut Shop Monday through Saturday between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. Be forewarned, however, that popular donuts – like the cinnamon rolls – can sell out pretty quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday.
Oram's accepts cash and credit cards. Personal checks, however, are not accepted. Advanced orders are permitted, providing you order at least a dozen and pick up your delicious donuts by 1 p.m. on the same day.
While the best donuts in Pittsburgh might not be within city limits, it certainly is well worth the drive to get to Beaver Falls. Visit Oram's Donuts Facebook page to learn more about the popular donut shop and to view a menu. And, if you really love homemade food, check out these mom & pop restaurants in Pittsburgh.
