Anyone who’s ever been to a British pub, especially in the United Kingdom, can attest that you’re usually guaranteed a laidback atmosphere, deliciously authentic food, and the chance for lively conversation. We, Pittsburghers, don’t have to hop on the next flight over the Atlantic to enjoy the authenticity of a Scottish pub. Instead, we only need to make our way to The Woods House in Pittsburgh.
Billed as a “traditional pub with a Scottish accent,” The Woods House in Hazelwood dishes up an eclectic mix of authentic Scottish and Pittsburgh dishes in a relaxed atmosphere.
It’s probably fair to say that the Scottish pub sits in one of the city’s most unique settings. The John Woods House, after all, dates back to 1792, making it one of the oldest residences in Pittsburgh.
The family-friendly pub, open Fridays through Sundays, boasts a taste-tantalizing menu that’s sure to bring you back for more. Kick off your meal with a delicious appetizer such as the…
Potato leek soup, the mussels in fennel Bree, or a tossed salad. You can’t go wrong with a helping of mac and cheese either.
A quick glance at the pub fare, and you’ll swear you’ve been transported to a small town in Scotland. Dig into such British favorites as fish and chips, Guinness steak pie, and bangers and mash.
Consider ordering a helping of hand-cut fries or house-made bread to pair with your main dish.
The Woods House also dishes up bread pudding with Scottish whiskey sauce for dessert and pours a range of drinks – from on tap beers and wines to cocktails and bourbon.
Browse the menu on the official website of The Woods House. Or, go here for Facebook.
