Bakeries, destined to satisfy our sweet tooth, aren't hard to find in PA. We can find bakeries that sell some of the tastiest treats we've ever had all over the state. However, sometimes we get cravings for breads and baked goods from faraway places like Germany. That's when we visit R. Weinrich's German Bakery in Pennsylvania, which bakes a generous selection of authentic German breads and other goodies.
R. Weinrich's German Bakery has been a neighborhood staple in Newtown Square since 1961.
Fair warning. If you go to the charming bakery hungry, you're probably going to end up buying a whole lot more than you planned to (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Browse the selection of fresh-baked bread, which ranges from Old World German Rye to pumpernickel. Rolls, including the classic Brotchen, are also available.
If you're lucky, you'll visit on a day when the enchanting bakery is serving authentic Fastnacht donuts.
However, if the classic German treats aren't available, try some of the scrumptious homemade donuts instead. Donuts, made fresh each day, are served in a variety of flavors - from glazed to Boston cream.
A breakfast pastry often hits the spot. How does a crumb cake, a fruit-filled Danish, or a cinnamon bun sound? Then, again, a dessert pastry, like the chocolate éclair, is a great way to start the day, too.
Don't forget to take a peek at the cookies, too. German butter squares, spritz cookies, and Russian tea cookies are among your choices.
The classic German bakery also offers custom cakes, perfect for any occasion or even if you're just in the mood for a scrumptious treat.
