Summer's kind of like a gift that just keeps on giving, isn't it? Between the beautiful weather and full menu of activities, we can never really suffer from boredom during these warmer months. Just when we think we've done it all, we discover something new to see or somewhere new to go. Like this orchard in Pennsylvania, that provides an idyllic backdrop for a day of peach picking and enjoying the summer sun.
Go peach picking at Cherry Hill Orchards in Lancaster, where you can pick your own fruit throughout the summer months.
Mark your calendar for early August when the peaches will be ready for picking at the orchard.
Depending on the type of peaches, ripening times range from early August until early September.
Cherry Hill Orchards grows 20 varieties of peaches, including Redhaven, White Lady, and John Boy.
Don't have time for peach picking but really want fresh peaches? Stop by the orchard's market for fresh peaches, usually beginning in mid-July.
You don't have to wait until August, though, to go fruit picking at the Lancaster orchard. Sweet cherries are typically available for picking in mid-June.
You can also pick plums, apricots, and apples at different times of the season.
Don't forget to visit the farm market, too, brimming with homegrown fruits and vegetables.
Stock up on such delicious goodies as fresh honey, jams, jellies, and preserves. (And satisfy your sweet tooth with homemade fruit pies, whoopie pies, and cookies.)
